"Educating Rita" is a compelling play that explores the power of education and self-discovery. The story follows Rita, a working-class hairdresser, who enrolls on an Open University course to escape her mundane life. Through her with Frank, a disillusioned professor, both characters embark on a journey of personal growth and unexpected revelations. As Rita challenges societal norms, she also forces Frank to confront his own discontent. Ultimately, the play highlights the importance of choice and the quest for identity.
Directed by Annaka Mota and Simon Mathews

Our 2025 performance...
'Of Pints and Plays'
With contributions written by Chris Gibson & Sam Walker, Rupert Haigh, Lou Treleaven and Jean McConnell.
The Bovey Tracey Players, a community theatre group since 1971, offers a unique experience to Bovey Tracey residents with various performances, including plays and murder mysteries. Our group was founded by a team of dedicated individuals who share a common love for the arts. We are based in Bovey Tracey, South Devon and host a variety of events year-round, always welcoming new members to join in the fun.

Our productions are staged in Bovey Tracey and its surroundings, generally in April and October. There's a lot of work done before they're ready as you can see! These pictures are taken from a performance of several short plays and a radio play staged in September 2025 at the Whisky Distillery, Bovey Tracey.
As you know by now, 2025 has been an 'annus horribilis' for the Players. We lost the Dolphin - it's still not re-opened - and finding a venue to do anything has been an uphill struggle. Our sincere thanks to Greg Millar at the Whisky Distillery for allowing us to stage 'Of Pints and Plays' - a collection of short plays and a radio play that we presented for one night only, Wednesday 24th September 2025.

We are particularly grateful to Benthan Pendlebury who interrupted a busy country-wide schedule to host the event. (see inset top right)

Murder Mystery...
In May 2024, the BOVEY TRACEY Players staged a murder mystery in the Dolphin Hotel. Tickets were priced at £29/person which included a welcome drink, a three course meal and of course. the entertainment.

Our next Murder Mystery is being staged in the Phoenix Hall in November 2025.. If you'd like to be involved in a Murder Mystery in Spring 2026, use the contact form below and write your message FAO Mark Godwin. Hoping to see you there!
